April 12, 2025 South Parade and Festival

At 9:00 a.m. “Just like music…” Onlookers & residents of the city lined the street with their chairs alongside McDowell Road to hear the sounds of bands marching, cheerleaders cheering, car clubs showing off their rides, and elected officials waving/throwing candy to the children. We were elated to have Forest Hill High School, Provine High School, Callaway High School, Jim Hill High School, Lanier High School, Murrah High School to grace us with dynamic performances, along with three middle schools Cardoza, Bailey Apac Northwest & Powell Middle Schools.

The parade lined up at the parking lot of Little Ceaser’s. -  Our Grand Marshals, Judge Adrienne Wooten and Senator David Blount thank you for leading the way! Led the 6th Annual Parade and Festival, a total of nine participating bands.

After the bands strutted and marched through the parade, they ended with a mini showcase for fans/audience. The organization prides itself in being supportive of our youth in the community. Forest Hill School was the winner of best performance high school Band and received $750.00 dollars from ASJN as a donation. Bailey Apac / Northwest middle School received $500.00 dollars from ASJN as a donation ASJN. A big congratulation to both band directors Bailey Apac / Northwest middle School, and the Forest Hill.  ASJN would like to also thank the participating bands, Callaway High School, Jim Hill High School, Provine High School, Lanier High School, Forest Hill High School, Murrah High School, Bailey Apac / Northwest middle School, Cardoza middle school, and Powell Middle School Bands.

There were approximately 55 vendors on site to allow visitors at the festival to patronize their businesses. Each vendor and entrepreneurs present hand created/crafted and their products for people to visibly see by purchasing. Food trucks lined the circle to showcase their variety of delicious appetizers and Healthcare vendors were onsite to provide screenings. There was also educational information for seniors and everyone interested. The Kids Zone attracted children with space jumps and other fun activities.

Live Performances for the audience included DJ Randy “Wildman” Brown.

The ultimate goal of the event was to showcase “collectiveness & unity in our community” by transforming the narrative of an unsafe South Jackson. People mingled with one another, shared ideas, dance, ate, and patronized. We want to continue promoting family friendly events where it’s a “1 Stop Shop.”

The Association of South Jackson appreciates all sponsors, vendors, volunteers, parade participants, committee members, & community for your unwavering support!
