Kwanzaa Celebrations Participation

Wednesday, January 1, 2025, the Association of South Jackson Neighborhoods participated in the week long celebration of the Kwanzaa Celebration held at the Medgar Evers Community Center, 3159 Edwards Avenue, and Jackson, Mississippi. The week long celebrations started on December 26, 2024 and ended Wednesday, January 1, 2025.  Vice President Johnny Byrd displayed the great work the organization was doing within the South Jackson area via a vision slide.  Our board member, Mr. Howard Sanders participated in each of the daily events.

The meaning of Kwanzaa is derived from the phrase “matunda ya kwanza” which means “first fruits” in Swahili, the most widely spoken language in the continent of Africa.   A candle is lit each day to celebrate the seven basic values of African Culture.  “ASJN was a co-host  of the last day which is Imani (Faith).I t was fitting  that as we strengthen our communities, every positive joint collaboration of problem solvers are working together to make our city, county and state a great place to call home and have faith that through cooperative collaborations, all our needs can be fulfilled.
