Ward 4 Candidates Square Off In Debate

Candidates vying for the Ward 4 Councilman ‘s seat being vacated by DeKeither Stamps participated in a local debate hosted by the Association of South Jackson Neighborhoods (ASJN) on March 11, 2021 at the Peggy Hobson Calhoun Community Center.  Candidates included:  Jacqueline Amos, Brain Grizzell, Malcolm May, Karen Porter, Pleshetta Smith and Larry Wilson. Because of their unique background, each candidate brings a different perspective to government.

Questions, submitted in advance by constituents of Ward 4, ranged from concerns regarding the current water crisis, crime, abandoned/blighted properties, JPS School Board Appointees, yearly budget, community service, and other issues.  The debate at times was quite spirited and gave potential voters an opportunity to evaluate each candidate based on their responses.  The debate was in-person (practicing social distance) and live on Facebook. Brittney Bowman acted as moderator.  Refreshments were provided.

Voters are asked to become familiar with all candidates and make their best choice for Ward 4 Councilperson on April 6, 2021 at the polls.
