Athletic Banquet
September 19, 2024, all parties gathered inside of the New Jerusalem (Alta Woods Campus) at 6:00 p.m. to show appreciation to businesses/organizations & stakeholders for their unwavering commitment in supporting our efforts to change the narrative of South Jackson;. This particular function was specifically to support financially & physically for our youth.
Six people were on our panel as special guest for the occasion. Jessica Gunter of Comcast, Jim Pollard of AMR, Dr. Lindell, Rachael Mays of Southern Echo , Jerry Hayman Cash Saver's , and Mrs. Linda Waters of Atmos Energy. Mr. Alvin Jackson of New Jerusalem was our Master of Ceremony (MC). Mr. Jackson has selflessly offered the use of their facility and equipment for our event. The Board and Members of the Association of South Jackson Neighborhoods (ASJN) are very appreciative of his act of kindness.
We were also graced with the presence of candidates seeking office for the Judge positions in Hinds County. Those candidates were: Attorney Yemi King, a representative of Judge Peter Teeuwissen and Attorney Bridget Morgan. Those candidates running for the mayor position are Mr. Fred Johnson, Mr. James Hopkins, Mr. Zach Servis and a representative for Mr. Timothy Henderson. Each candidate spoke to the audience in regards to why he/she will be best for the job.
Ex- Board of Supervisors President Credell Calhoun and his wife former Hinds Supervisor Mrs. Peggy Hobson Calhoun, Councilman Four Brian Grizzell, Deputy Chief Vincent Grizzell of JPD, Chief Joseph Wade of JPD, Forest Hill athletic coaching staff members, Assistant Superintendent of Jackson Public High School Division Mrs. Laketia Marshall-Thomas, Commissioner De’Keither Stamps, Precinct 1 Captain Williams Kendrick, Judge Frank Sutton, and Judge Adrienne Wooten
Southeast Jackson Forest High School received $1,500.00 for their athletic departments to use to purchase equipment, and uniforms).
It is the ultimate goal for this organization to Lead, Inspire, Transform, and engage all citizens of the Southeast Jackson area.
There were approximately 200 people present to show their support towards the work that is being done physically within the communities for which we reside and work. We are appreciative of each and every one of our sponsors, stakeholders, communities, members of ASJN, and whomever else that has assisted us in guaranteeing that our banquet was a success!
